President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointment of Professor Ayo Omotayo as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru. The renewal grants Omotayo a final four-year term at the policy research institution.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Omotayo was initially appointed to lead the institute in November 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His appointment was later confirmed by the Senate in February 2022.
NIPSS, located in Kuru, Plateau State, serves as Nigeria’s foremost policy think tank responsible for strategic research, policy formulation, and leadership training for senior public and private sector officials.
Omotayo is a Professor of Environmental Sustainability with extensive experience in academia and policy studies. He earned a PhD in Geography from the University of Ibadan after studying there between 1980 and 1990.
He began his academic career at Lagos State University in 1985 and became a Senior Lecturer in 1992 at the age of 30.
During his time at the university, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2012 to 2017. He later headed the Centre for Planning at the institution before his appointment as Director-General of NIPSS in 2021.
