Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe is in Paris undergoing treatment for a knee injury, with no surgery currently planned. The French international has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee and will follow a conservative recovery plan. His availability for the upcoming UEFA Champions League tie against Manchester City remains uncertain.
Mbappe travelled to the French capital accompanied by members of Real Madrid’s medical team for further evaluation. Medical assessments carried out by French specialists, under the supervision of the club’s doctors, confirmed a sprain in his left knee.
The Spanish club stated that the injury will be managed through a non-surgical approach. The decision was reached after consultations involving the player, medical staff and coaching team.
Mbappe has been managing discomfort linked to the external ligament of his left knee since late 2025. The persistent pain ruled him out of last week’s Champions League play-off second leg against Benfica.
Real Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa confirmed that the forward will be sidelined for more than a few days but declined to provide a definite return date. The club is without its leading scorer as it prepares to face Getafe in a league fixture.
Mbappe has scored 38 goals in 33 appearances for Real Madrid this season, making him a central figure in the team’s campaign. His fitness will be closely monitored ahead of the Champions League round of 16 first leg against Manchester City on March 11, with the return leg scheduled for March 17.
On the international front, Mbappe is expected to be part of France’s preparations for the upcoming World Cup. France are scheduled to play friendly matches against Brazil in Boston on March 26 and Colombia in Washington on March 29. Their opening World Cup match is set for June 16 against Senegal.
Both Real Madrid and the French national team are prioritising his full recovery to ensure he returns to competitive action at peak condition.
