The Kwara State Government has commenced the payment of N50,000 each to 10,000 elderly residents under its social welfare initiative known as Owo Arugbo. The programme is designed to provide financial support to senior citizens across the state.
The disbursement is being coordinated through the Kwara State Social Investment Programme. Officials said beneficiaries were selected from communities across all 16 local government areas in the state.
The cash support initiative forms part of the state government’s broader social protection measures aimed at assisting vulnerable groups, particularly senior citizens who may have limited sources of income.
In a related development, the state government has approved the commencement of the 2025/2026 promotion process for civil servants. The move is expected to ensure that no promotion arrears remain within the state’s public service.
Authorities said the decision reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen welfare provisions for both retirees and active workers in the Kwara State civil service.
