Senator Seriake Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West in the National Assembly, has announced his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The former Bayelsa State governor confirmed that he has joined the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing internal crises within his former party.
Dickson made the announcement during a media briefing held in Abuja on Thursday. He explained that persistent disagreements and leadership struggles within the PDP had weakened the party and made it difficult for many members to remain.
The senator stated that the prolonged internal disputes had significantly reduced the party’s capacity to function as a strong political platform. According to him, the situation had narrowed the party’s influence and limited its ability to accommodate differing views among members.
He also expressed concern that the party had gradually lost its ability to provide clear positions on major national issues. Dickson added that ongoing leadership tensions had further undermined the party’s effectiveness.
The lawmaker said he decided to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress, a political party recently registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He described the platform as a potential alternative for Nigerians seeking a stronger opposition voice.
Dickson urged citizens across the country to support and register with the new party, stating that broader participation would help strengthen democratic engagement and political competition in Nigeria.
