Nigerian music producer Osabuohien Osaretin, known professionally as Sarz, says he has never experienced uninterrupted electricity supply in Nigeria. The 36-year-old highlighted how unstable power and other infrastructure gaps continue to affect productivity within the country’s creative sector.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Sarz explained that inconsistent electricity supply disrupts the creative process, particularly at moments of inspiration.
He stated that despite being born and raised in Nigeria, he has not had access to electricity for a full 24-hour period at any time in his life. According to him, power outages often occur at critical moments when he feels mentally prepared to create music.
Sarz noted that the situation is sometimes compounded by fuel scarcity or industrial actions, which make it difficult to power generators as alternatives. He said these interruptions can result in lost opportunities and unrealised creative potential.
The producer added that creative professionals rely heavily on stable infrastructure to perform at their best. He stressed that mental readiness alone is insufficient if the necessary systems, particularly electricity, are unreliable.
Sarz further argued that infrastructure plays a central role in the growth of Nigeria’s entertainment industry. He maintained that limitations in power supply and related facilities continue to hinder the sector’s full potential.
His comments add to ongoing conversations about the broader impact of infrastructure deficits on business operations and creative enterprises across Nigeria.
