The First Lady of Yobe State, Hafsat Buni, has distributed food supplies to 2,000 vulnerable women as part of Ramadan support efforts across the state. The intervention covered beneficiaries in all 17 Local Government Areas. Officials said the programme targets women facing economic hardship during the fasting period.
Mrs Buni, who also serves as State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, stated that the outreach is focused on strengthening support systems for vulnerable residents. She said the initiative prioritises women’s welfare and community resilience through sustained humanitarian assistance.
Representing the First Lady at the event, the Commissioner for the Yobe State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Mairo Amshi, said the programme would continue to expand its reach. She noted that consistent support mechanisms are necessary to reduce hardship and improve living conditions in communities across the state.
The distributed packages contained staple food items including rice, spaghetti and cooking oil. Organisers said the supplies were selected to help ease the burden on widows and other vulnerable women observing the Ramadan fast.
Mrs Buni added that beyond food assistance, the programme is designed to promote inclusion and restore hope among disadvantaged groups. She said women-focused interventions remain central to the state’s humanitarian strategy.
In separate remarks, the Commissioner for the Yobe State Ministry of Women Affairs, Yajalo Badama, said the outreach aligns with the development priorities of Governor Mai Mala Buni. She said state officials have been encouraged to prioritise relief and social support for underserved populations.
Badama noted that the Ramadan intervention reflects a governance approach centred on social welfare and public service. She added that the administration remains committed to ensuring support reaches vulnerable residents across communities.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of fasting, prayer, charity and reflection.
