Veteran Nollywood actress Eucharia Anunobi has shared details of the personal challenges she faced at home while pursuing her education and entertainment career. Speaking during a podcast interview, she described a prolonged conflict with her father, who opposed both her schooling and professional ambitions.
Anunobi said her father believed formal education for girls was unnecessary, insisting that marriage should be their priority. Despite being financially capable, he withdrew support for her education and distanced himself when she refused to follow his preferred career path.
To continue her studies, the actress turned to modeling, which she said provided the income needed to fund her education. She explained that the work sustained her through school when family support was no longer available.
Recounting one of the most difficult periods, Anunobi said her father confined her to a room for six months after she declined to complete job application forms for an office position he had selected for her. According to her, the documents were regularly passed under the door, but she refused to fill them out because she had no interest in office work.
She added that her father informally disowned her and strongly opposed her decision to become an actress. As a result, she often left home secretly and sometimes climbed the fence to attend auditions.
The actress said their relationship changed after she received her first major recognition abroad. She won an award in London for her role in the Nollywood film Glamour Girls and returned home with the honour.
Presenting the award to her father marked a turning point, she said. He asked her to kneel, placed sand in her hand, and offered a blessing for her future.
Anunobi recalled that he told her her success would be immeasurable, comparing it to grains of sand that cannot be counted. She described the moment as the first time she received his public blessing and embrace after years of disagreement.
