Tinubu-led ECOWAS will fail in Niger, according to Archbishop Chukwuma

His Grace, Emmanuel Chukwuma, Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province of the Anglican Communion, has denounced ECOWAS’s proposed invasion of the Niger Republic in response to the country’s coup last month.

In an interview with journalists in Enugu, Chukwuma claimed that the ECOWAS leadership had not properly consulted before threatening war against Niger.
He added that the ECOWAS’s war-mongering is evidence of tremendous corruption among its leaders and that any military action against Niger will have a negative impact on Nigeria and other West African States.
“It’s also unfortunate that the current government doesn’t consult enough, which has caused ECOWAS to misfire,” he added. The fact that our president Tinubu wants to go to war with Niger at this time is a complete disgrace.
“Corruption and the people’s increasingly challenging lives were major contributing factors to the coup in the Niger Republic. The Army eventually intervened as a result. People were happy with that.
“Right now, they are fighting the coup d’etat rather than battling corruption and denouncing the awful deed of the Niger President. It is untrue. This, in my opinion, has demonstrated that the ECOWAS leaders themselves are corrupt and that they don’t consider corruption to be unacceptable.
“Worse things are happening in ECOWAS countries than what is happening in Niger, but they are not preparing an intervention since there is some corruption even in the military.
“Today’s Nigerians are going through a challenging moment. They are in pain, but they are patient enough. I believe it is time for us to declare enough is enough.
“I am glad to see that so many people oppose sending troops to fight in Niger. Nigeria currently needs assistance to deliver relief because the people there are in need. If the government is unable to accomplish that, confusion will ensue when God descends one day to act as our advocate. In Nigeria, a revolution is required. Nigeria needs a revolution because things are getting worse before they get better.
