Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has described Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying match against Benin Republic as the most important game of his coaching career, as he looks to guide the team closer to a 2026 FIFA World Cup ticket.
Nigeria will face their West African neighbours tonight (Tuesday) at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, in a crucial Group F encounter. The Super Eagles must win to remain in contention for qualification to the global tournament.
Speaking during Monday’s pre-match press conference, the Malian tactician said he is both excited and motivated ahead of the decisive fixture.
“For me, as a coach, it’s maybe the most important game of my career,” Chelle admitted.
“I’m happy, I’m excited — sometimes a little nervous — but I like the pressure.”
The high-stakes match is set to kick off at 5 p.m. Nigerian time, with millions of fans across the country expecting a strong response from the Super Eagles after recent mixed results in the qualifying campaign.
A win in Uyo would significantly boost Nigeria’s chances of progressing toward a spot in the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
