Professor Iyabo Obasanjo has described the recent stabilisation of the naira as a significant achievement for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. She said improved exchange rate predictability is strengthening business confidence and supporting economic planning.
Speaking on Saturday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Obasanjo noted that exchange rate stability enables importers and exporters to plan more effectively.
She explained that when businesses can accurately forecast costs and revenues, it reduces uncertainty and promotes sustainable growth. According to her, currency stability remains central to broader economic recovery efforts.
Obasanjo also commended the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project initiated by the Tinubu administration. She said the road corridor is expected to ease congestion along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway axis in Ogun State, improve connectivity to eastern Nigeria, and enhance trade between the Lagos and Calabar ports.
She added that linking major port cities could stimulate commercial activities along the coastal belt and expand revenue opportunities.
Beyond infrastructure, the former Ogun Central senator highlighted improvements in security coordination. She pointed to increased domestic and international collaboration, as well as the President’s overseas engagements aimed at strengthening trade and economic partnerships.
Obasanjo, who previously served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health between 2003 and 2007, recently declared her intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state. She said Ogun’s literacy level and history of notable female figures position it to lead in advancing women’s political representation.
Addressing concerns about zoning in Ogun State, she maintained that Ogun Central should not be blamed for the inability of Ogun West to produce a governor since the state’s creation on February 3, 1976. She noted that past political efforts were made to support power rotation but did not yield the expected outcome.
She added that broader consensus among the state’s political blocs would be necessary to achieve equitable power distribution ahead of future elections.Stabilisation of Naira Major Boost for Tinubu Administration — Iyabo Obasanjo
