Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, has dismissed claims linking him to the ongoing online dispute between social commentator VeryDarkMan and content creator King Mitchy. He described the allegations as false and clarified that his only interaction with King Mitchy was a public meeting where he provided financial support for her non-governmental organisation.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Saturday, Tinubu said his name had been deliberately inserted into a disagreement he neither initiated nor participated in. He stated that suggestions of any improper relationship or secret arrangement were untrue.
Tinubu explained that he met King Mitchy once in a public setting alongside other individuals. During that meeting, he said he offered financial backing for her NGO as part of his broader youth empowerment and philanthropic initiatives.
The controversy followed the renovation of a public school reportedly funded through Tinubu’s support for King Mitchy’s charity work. The development sparked an online exchange between King Mitchy and VeryDarkMan over allegations concerning the management and accountability of donations.
As the dispute intensified, VeryDarkMan accused Tinubu of sponsoring the charity activities, further drawing his name into the controversy.
Reacting to the situation, Tinubu warned against the spread of misinformation and online harassment. He noted that repeated false claims do not become factual simply by being amplified.
He also expressed concern about the mental health implications of online bullying, stating that disagreements should not escalate into attacks that threaten personal wellbeing or safety.
Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to philanthropy, stating that he has supported initiatives in education, healthcare, enterprise development and youth empowerment for more than a decade. He added that charitable efforts should not be politicised or used as tools for public attacks.
He concluded by calling for restraint, responsible discourse and a return to factual engagement, reiterating his commitment to serving Nigerians with transparency and integrity.
