A woman accused of opening fire at the Los Angeles home of global music star Rihanna has appeared in court for the first time and is now facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder. Prosecutors say the suspect could face life imprisonment if convicted. The case stems from a daytime shooting incident at the singer’s Beverly Hills residence.
The suspect, Ivanna Ortiz, appeared before a Los Angeles County court on Tuesday, March 10, for an arraignment and plea hearing. Court filings show she has been formally charged with attempted murder alongside several firearm-related offences.
Additional counts include nine charges of assault with a firearm, two counts of shooting into an inhabited dwelling, and one count of discharging a firearm at a motor vehicle. Ortiz did not enter a plea during the brief court session. Her arraignment has been rescheduled for March 26.
Following the hearing, Nathan Hochman, the District Attorney for Los Angeles County, said the severity of the charges means the defendant could spend the rest of her life in prison if found guilty.
Ortiz remains in custody on a $1.8 million bond, reduced from an earlier $10.225 million amount. The court also issued a protective order barring her from contacting Rihanna and her partner, A$AP Rocky.
The court appearance marked Ortiz’s first public sighting since her arrest on Sunday, March 8. Authorities allege she fired about 10 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle at the couple’s residence in Beverly Hills.
Investigators said the shooting occurred in broad daylight at approximately 1:21 p.m. Gunfire reportedly struck the property’s front security gate before hitting an Airstream trailer parked in the driveway.
Prosecutors stated during a post-hearing briefing that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were inside the trailer when bullets pierced the windshield. No injuries were reported from the incident.
Court proceedings also indicated that another nearby home was hit by gunfire, with two occupants inside at the time. Authorities added that Rihanna’s mother, the couple’s children, and two staff members were inside the main house during the shooting.
The case remains under judicial review as prosecutors continue preparations for the next court date.
