The Lagos State Government on Monday re-arraigned convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, before the Lagos High Court in Ikeja over the murder of two police officers.
Evans was arraigned alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, before Justice A. O. Ogala on a five-count charge bordering on murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the fresh charges.
Evans Faces Multiple Criminal Trials
Evans, who gained nationwide notoriety for his involvement in high-profile kidnappings, is currently facing five separate criminal cases involving kidnapping and murder of several victims across Lagos.
He has already been convicted in two of those cases, including one that earned him a life sentence for leading a criminal network responsible for abducting wealthy businessmen and demanding huge ransom payments.
The new case marks another chapter in the long list of criminal prosecutions tied to Evans’ decade-long kidnapping operations that terrorized parts of Lagos and southeastern Nigeria.
The court adjourned proceedings after the plea, with the prosecution expected to present witnesses at the next hearing.
