Regarding campaign pledges, we cannot make excuses – Sanwo-oluThe governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has stated that his administration “must work to achieve its set out goals as promised during the campaign period” in spite of the unpredictability in the international business sector.

He gave the business community his word that his administration would not permit disruptions to the state’s commercial sector.

During the 2023 Lagos Corporate Assembly, a business forum known as “BOS meets with Business Community,” Sanwo-Olu provided the guarantee.

Speaking at a gathering that included entrepreneurs, captains of industry, chiefs of agencies, and members of the State Executive Council, Sanwo-Olu urged government organizations to interact humanely with corporate organizations and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Sanwo-Olu assured the business community that his government is dedicated to making doing business easy and creating an atmosphere that allows firms to prosper in the state. He also pledged to promptly address issues raised during the meeting.

In his speech, Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the administration’s pledge to uphold democratic principles and provide good governance.

According to what he said, Lagos State will need a budget of almost N7 trillion by 2024 in order to provide basic services and infrastructure.

“Reports gathered from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies show that, if we have the resources, the state’s infrastructural challenges and other basic amenities will require at least N7 trillion for the year 2024 budget,” the speaker stated. This demonstrates how far from it our anticipated N2 trillion budget for 2024 is.

The business community was also given the assurance by Sanwo-Olu that representatives from the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment as well as other federal agencies would be invited to the upcoming Lagos Corporate Assembly, which is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.

The corporate assembly has been a very significant public-private sector engagement platform, according to Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperative, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem. Through it, the business community and the government engage and discuss issues that are vital to the state’s industrial and commercial growth.
