Minister to carry out police officers' removal from VIP security responsibilitiesHajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Minister of State for Police Affairs, has made it clear that the Ministry’s primary responsibilities include carrying out presidential orders to remove police officers from VIP protection responsibilities and creating a community policing plan.

During a two-day retreat for the Directorate cadre, held at the Wetland Hotel in Abuja with the topic “Envisioning the Ministry of Police Affairs for Effective Internal Security: strengthening Administration and Management Functions for Resilience and Efficiency,” the minister made this statement.

Noting that the two-day management retreat will inspire a collective commitment to align efforts of the Ministerial mandate to contribute to the realization of Mr.President’s vision for a renewed, highly effective Nigeria Police Force, the Minister said that the mandates are not merely tasks but rather transformative initiatives that can enhance internal security in Nigeria.

She remembered that the Nigeria Police Force is today facing a difficult decision as a result of decades of neglect, which has made it more difficult for the force to carry out its constitutional responsibility.

“The Ministry of Police Affairs has also not been spared,” she said. The Ministry is now at the vanguard of the Police Transformation Agenda, though, and it must rise to the occasion given Mr.

President’s commitment to overhauling the Nigeria Police Force. The formidable task of guaranteeing coordination and establishing the necessary structures to guide the Nigeria Police Force toward enhanced operational and technological efficacy falls on the Ministry.

As to Imaan’s opinion, management personnel should exhibit steadfast dedication and the necessary desire to produce observable outcomes.

The Police Inspectorate Department, in particular, should adapt its operations to prioritize strong Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning. “Reports must be factual, useful, evidence-based, and serve as essential tools for improving police performance,” the speaker stated.

It must support the reassessment of the training institutions’ curricula to make sure they reflect the changing face of law enforcement and incorporate modern methods and global standards.

The Minister gave the Police Service and the Planning, Research, and Statistics Department the task of making sure that administrative optimization, pertinent policies, and procedures are in place for the Police to be modern, adopt cutting-edge technology, and function as an inclusive, community-based, intelligence-led, and technology-driven force in Nigeria.

Establishing collaborations with esteemed research establishments and remaining up to date with worldwide developments, this division will be indispensable in molding evidence-based tactics for the Nigeria Police Force. She emphasized.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Annup Vyas, Head of the Conflict and Security Programme (Nigeria and Lake Chad Basin), expressed his goodwill to the country in a message. He said that the UK is committed to Nigeria’s police reforms and is prepared to do more in the spirit of partnership.

He also mentioned that the UK is interested in the future plan, how to adapt, and finding new opportunities that will support the needs of the Nigerian system.

The Nigeria Police Force is essential to the Ministry and the Police Service Commission, according to Dr. Solomon E. Arase, Chairman of the Commission, who also stated that the main responsibility of both agencies is to maintain the efficient operation of the Nigeria Police Force.

In his welcome speech, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Police Affairs, said that the retreat’s goal is to increase service performance and efficiency given the status of the world today.

He said, “I want to challenge each and every person attending this seminar to provide services with resilience.

We must never give up on bettering our abilities and ourselves, and we must never be afraid to be honest with ourselves. In order to prevent criminals in society from raising false alarms, he continued, the Ministry and the Nigeria Police Force would be protected by remarks about societal issues that are supported by proof.
