Nigeria’s Super Eagles could face changes to their international schedule as rising tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran cast uncertainty over a planned four-nation tournament. Organisers are considering relocating the competition from the Middle East to Europe, with one participating nation reportedly set to withdraw.
The invitational tournament was originally scheduled to take place in Amman, Jordan, later this month. Hosts Jordan were expected to compete alongside Super Eagles, Iran, and Costa Rica.
Sports journalist and former team media officer Colin Udoh disclosed that the regional security situation may force a venue change. He stated that the tournament is likely to be moved to Europe, adding that Iran is no longer expected to participate.
Udoh further noted that contingency plans are underway if a full tournament cannot be staged. In that scenario, organisers are exploring the option of arranging a single international friendly between Nigeria and Jordan, also to be played at a European venue.
President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, said the federation is observing developments before making a final decision. He indicated that there are still about three weeks to assess the situation and determine the most viable arrangement.
The uncertainty follows escalating hostilities in the Middle East involving the United States and Israel, developments that have raised wider concerns over regional travel and event logistics.
