The Lagos State Government has announced a detailed traffic management plan ahead of the reconstruction and expansion of Ogunnusi Road in Ikeja Local Government Area. The project, scheduled to commence on March 6, 2026, will involve phased closures and diversions expected to last until January 2028.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the works will be executed by the Federal Ministry of Works along the corridor stretching from Ojodu-Berger Bus-Stop to Mobil Filling Station Junction, covering both inbound and outbound lanes.
He explained that the overall reconstruction, divided into two phases, will span from March 6, 2026 to January 6, 2028. Phase I will focus on a 4.5-kilometre stretch from Ojodu-Berger Bus-Stop inward to Mobil Filling Station Junction in the Ijaye/Agege direction. This phase is expected to be completed by February 6, 2027.
Osiyemi stated that vehicular access will be restricted within the designated construction zone during the first phase. Motorists heading toward Ijaye/Agege from Ojodu-Berger will be redirected to use a contraflow on the Ojodu-Berger-bound carriageway for about one kilometre before reconnecting to the main route.
As an alternative, road users may divert through Dr Nurudeen Olowopopo Way, connect to Otunba Jobifele Way, link Obafemi Awolowo Way and proceed via Lateef Jakande Road to reach their destinations.
Articulated vehicle and truck drivers coming from the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway toward Agege have been advised to reroute through Ojota/Maryland, continue via Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, access Kodesoh Street and connect to Oba Akran Avenue up to Guinness Roundabout. From there, they can link Ogba Road through Pen Cinema.
Motorists travelling from Ijaye/Agege toward Ojodu-Berger will maintain through traffic but will encounter a temporary contraflow arrangement of approximately one kilometre near the construction zone before resuming full access beyond the work area.
The commissioner added that emergency tow trucks will be deployed along the corridor to handle breakdowns and ensure prompt incident response throughout the construction period.
He urged motorists to cooperate with traffic management officials and adhere strictly to road signs, noting that the temporary traffic measures are necessary to ensure the safe and timely completion of the road expansion project.
