Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, is currently in a high-level security meeting with the nation’s top military commanders at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja, amid growing concerns over escalating insecurity.
Sources gathered that the meeting is focused on urgent strategies to address the recent surge in terrorist activities, particularly in the North-East region where several military formations have come under attack in recent days.
The security situation worsened following the killing of three Nigerian Army Commanding Officers, all holding the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, during separate terrorist assaults in Borno State. The incidents have raised fresh fears about the safety of military personnel and the broader stability of the region.
Among those present at the closed-door meeting are the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke; and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass.
Representatives of other security and intelligence bodies, including the National Intelligence Agency, are also participating in the discussions aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s counter-terrorism response.
