Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has rallied Nigeria’s national football team to go all out for victory against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, in their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles will host the match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, with the team needing a win to keep their qualification hopes alive. Nigeria currently sits three points behind Benin Republic in Group F, making the fixture a must-win encounter for Eric Chelle’s side.
“Win This One for Me” — Musa
In a motivational message shared in a video on the Super Eagles’ official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Musa, who turns a year older today, urged the players to deliver victory as a birthday gift.
“We all know what’s at stake — win the game and wait for the other result. I know you can do it,” Musa said.
“This would be the best birthday gift for me, guys. I miss you all and wish you the best of luck. I know we can do it; let’s do it again today.”
Nigeria’s Qualification Race
The Super Eagles have had a challenging qualifying campaign, with a string of inconsistent results leaving them under pressure to secure maximum points in their remaining fixtures.
A win over Benin Republic would revive their push for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Musa, Nigeria’s most-capped player, remains one of the team’s most respected figures and continues to play a vocal role in motivating the squad despite his current absence from the lineup.
