Nollywood actor Tayo Amokade, widely known as Ijebu, has called on law enforcement authorities to take action following an alleged suicide attempt by content creator King Mitchy during a TikTok livestream. The incident has sparked widespread concern over online safety and the influence of social media personalities on young audiences.
King Mitchy was reported to have ingested harmful household substances during a live broadcast on Saturday, amid an ongoing online dispute involving social media figure VeryDarkMan. Shortly after the livestream, her management announced her death, a claim that circulated widely and generated public reaction across digital platforms.
The development has intensified discussions around cyberbullying and the psychological impact of online conflicts. It has also raised fresh questions about the responsibility of content creators and the regulation of sensitive content on social media platforms.
Reacting publicly, Ijebu expressed concern about the potential consequences of such broadcasts, particularly on teenagers and young adults who actively use social media. He warned that household cleaning products are dangerous substances and should never be portrayed in a manner that could encourage harmful behaviour.
The actor appealed to security agencies responsible for monitoring digital platforms to investigate the matter thoroughly. He stressed that many social media influencers command large followings among individuals aged between 10 and 21, making them powerful role models whose actions could shape behaviour.
Ijebu further urged authorities to address any online content that appears to dramatise or promote self-harm, noting that such displays could negatively affect impressionable viewers.
The incident continues to generate public debate as concerns grow over mental health awareness, online disputes, and the responsibility of digital content creators in Nigeria’s rapidly expanding social media space.
