Abuja docks two guys for upsetting the peace

In an Abuja Kado Grade I Area Court, two men were docked for allegedly upsetting the peace.

Orumah Abubakar and Prosper Chukwu, both of Kado Abuja, were accused of disturbing the peace by the police.

However, the accused entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.

The complainant, Mr. Orumah Abubakar, reported the incident to the Life Camp police station, according to the prosecution’s attorney, Mr. Stanley Nwafoaku, who testified in court.

According to Nwafoaku, police officers were assigned to the complainant’s home on Saturday to summon Chukwu to the station.

According to him, Abubakar and Chukwu got into a fight when the police arrived at the complainant’s home, upsetting the peace.

The dispute over maintenance payments for the compound allegedly turned physical, according to the police, who then summoned the parties to the police station.

According to the authorities, the offense is against Section 113 of the Penal Code Law.

In order to guarantee that the defendants would not escape custody if granted bail, the defense attorney, Mrs. Charity Nwosu, presented an oral application invoking sections 158 of the 2015 ACJA and 36 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

However, the defense attorney’s request for bail was not opposed by the prosecutor.

The accused were granted bail in the amount of N50,000 with one surety each in the same amount by the Area Court Judge Malam Mohammed Wakili.

Wakili mandated that the defendants produce trustworthy sureties who must be residents of the court’s geographic jurisdiction.

The court registrar must verify the sureties’ identification cards, a printout of their BVN, and two current passport photos, he continued.

The matter was postponed by the judge until a hearing on October 17. (NAN)
