Senator Sharafadeen Alli has called for urgent action to remove structural and social barriers limiting women’s participation in leadership across Nigeria. He made the appeal as the world marked International Women’s Day on March 8. The lawmaker stressed that gender inclusion remains essential to national progress.
Alli, a member of the National Assembly representing Oyo South Senatorial District, said stakeholders at all levels must work collectively to create equal opportunities for women. He noted that persistent obstacles continue to limit women’s access to decision-making positions in both public and private institutions.
The senator, elected under the All Progressives Congress, described women as central to the stability of families and communities. He added that empowering women is critical to strengthening social structures and governance outcomes.
He said the annual observance highlights the need to advance gender equality and broaden access to leadership roles for women nationwide. Removing institutional and cultural constraints, he noted, would enable fuller participation in development efforts.
Alli further stated that sustained investment in women and girls would deliver long-term national benefits. He explained that such commitments would reinforce family systems, accelerate economic growth, and promote a more inclusive and prosperous society.
