A male infant, who was abandoned by his mother in a pit latrine in Otuocha, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, was successfully rescued and found alive after three days of being left unattended.
Based on the report provided by the Anambra Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Affairs, it has been observed that a young woman named Nwaedoka Chidimma, hailing from Izzi in Ebonyi state, delivered a child on Sunday, August 27, 2023, and afterwards abandoned the newborn in a toilet.
According to Esther Omesi, an individual engaged in agricultural activities and an acquaintance of Chidimma, the accused individual made a request to temporarily reside at her residence for a brief period of time, citing the need to engage in farming-related work.
Omesi provided an account of the suspect’s behavior, noting that it became suspicious on Sunday when the suspect informed her of experiencing gastrointestinal discomfort and afterwards proceeded to a designated area for defecation.
According to Omesi, it was stated. Chidimma emerged from the lavatory after a considerable duration, exhibiting a profuse discharge of blood.
According to Omsesi, she contacted a healthcare professional who conducted an examination of Chidimma and determined that the infant was no longer present.
The individual expressed their belief that Chidinma experienced a stillbirth and advised her to return to her parental house in order to inform them of this occurrence.
Mrs. Omesi reported auditory perception of an infant’s vocalization on the morning of Tuesday, August 29. Subsequently, she expeditiously employed a ladder to effectuate the retrieval of the neonate, followed by prompt notification of the appropriate authorities.
Upon being notified of the incidence, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon Ify Obinabo, promptly intervened by transferring the newborn to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Amaku Awka for medical care and apprehending the perpetrator.
