To significantly lower the maternal mortality rate in the country’s capital, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration will launch a special health insurance enrollment program for pregnant women who are at risk in the FCT.During an on-the-spot assessment visit to the primary Health Care Center, Wassa in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, revealed this information. The purpose of the visit was to assess the facility, the quality of care provided, and the scope of operations in accordance with standard healthcare guidelines.
According to Fasawe, the project would lower maternal mortality in the FCT and enable the FCT Administration to offer comprehensive healthcare support to pregnant women who are at risk.
Regardless of their socioeconomic background, she stated that every resident of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has the right to receive high-quality healthcare services. She also stated that the secretariat must act quickly to meet the needs of the populace, which includes providing access to safe and clean drinking water to prevent the spread of disease.
According to her, “The secretariat has taken the audacious step to initiate a special enrolment process for women facing economic hardship so as to receive vital care deserved. This is in recognition of the importance of proper healthcare during pregnancy and the right of every pregnant woman to essential healthcare services without financial barriers.”
“A variety of services, such as prenatal care, delivery, postnatal care, and other essential medical attention that would significantly lower the mother and infant mortality rate, would be covered by the insurance process.”
She noted that through creative healthcare interventions and community outreach initiatives, the government is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of the populace.
Additionally, the secretariat has been instructed by FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike to start advocacy and sensitization campaigns to inform the public about where and how to get cheap healthcare services in the FCT.
