Army vows to bring security and nightlife back to Imo

The Nigerian Army has provided reassurance to the citizens of Imo state of its dedication to reinstating nocturnal activities and ensuring the safety of all individuals within the region.

Brigadier General Usman Lawal, the Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army located in Obinze near Owerri, expressed his commitment during the formal establishment of a Joint Night Patrol Task Force in Owerri on Sunday.

According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the inauguration was attended by commanders and heads of security agencies in Imo.

According to Lawal, who served as their spokesperson, there has been a notable increase in the incidence of criminal activity and lawlessness inside the urban area of Owerri. Consequently, it is imperative to address and mitigate this prevailing pattern.

The commander additionally expressed that the Joint Night Patrol Teams will effectively utilize the specialized knowledge, commitment, and resolute determination of military troops, naval people, air force personnel, police officers, and other security officials from various agencies to ensure the protection and security of the lives and property of the state’s residents.

The speaker, however, issued a cautionary statement on the troops participating in the collaborative nocturnal patrols, emphasizing the importance of maintaining professionalism and establishing the essential trust with the populace. Furthermore, it was emphasized that any instances of misconduct or lack of discipline would not be accepted by the patrol teams.

The importance of ensuring the security of the capital city arises from the recent escalation in incidents of armed robbery, kidnappings, and other associated criminal activities, particularly during nighttime hours.

The speaker emphasized the importance of this action, particularly in light of the ongoing political activities and campaigning that precede the upcoming gubernatorial election on November 11th.

The Governor, Hope Uzodimma, expressed his support for the establishment of a Joint Night Patrol Task Force by the security services, as conveyed by the Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs, Dr Ugorji Okechukwu Ugorji. This initiative is seen as a positive step towards safeguarding the well-being of individuals and protecting their belongings.

According to his statement, the state’s current condition of tranquility may be attributed to the professionalism exhibited by the security agencies.

The governor expressed the state government’s unwavering commitment to providing ongoing support to the security services in their efforts to ensure the safety of Owerri Metropolis and the whole state.

The individual implored the residents of Imo to provide their assistance and promptly provide relevant information with security services in order to facilitate the apprehension of criminals and uphold the protection of lives and property.
