The deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has expressed regret to his former boss and governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, for the words he used in the past when they disagreed politically.Shaibu, however, emphasized that his desire to become the next governor of the state and replace Governor Godwin Obaseki as his principal comes from a religious conviction to serve the state and give the people back control of their government.
Shaibu made the comments during a live interview that was viewed in Benin City on a private aired television station in Lagos. Despite their tense relationship, he claimed that he chose not to confront his employer because he didn’t want to use any words that would come back to haunt him if he were to win the Peoples Democratic Party ticket (PDP).
“I had extensively consulted with numerous individuals and groups within and outside of Edo State prior to publicly announcing my interest in contesting,” he stated. Additionally, I prayed to God for direction and guidance.
The signs I received inspired me to pursue my goal, even if it was clear the governor intended to back someone else.
“Give it to Philip Shaibu if my party wants to win the Edo State election; if they want to lose, they should give it to somebody else—not because I’m a superstar, but because I have the experience, the quality, and the content.”
Regarding his previous arguments with Oshiomhole, Shaibu apologized to Oshiomhole for the language he used, expressed regret for the way he used it, and vowed to never make the same mistakes again.
“I apologize for the words I spoke during our arguments. The language I used is the sole thing for which I apologise to Adams Oshiomhole, and I will continue to do so. Shaibu remarked, “I don’t want to make the same error again.
