Police chiefs in Lagos and Osun become AIGs as the PSC promotes 5,718 senior officers

Police chiefs in Lagos and Osun become AIGs as the PSC promotes 5,718 senior officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has recently promoted a total of 5,718 police officers, including Idowu Owohunwa, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, and Kehinde Longer, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State. This promotion exercise can be considered significant in terms of the number of officers affected.

The promotion of 5,718 senior Police Officers, encompassing both General duty and specialised cadres of the Force, was approved by the PSC.

The Commission has granted approval for the advancement of twelve Commissioners of Police to the higher position of Assistant Inspectors General of Police, AIG. Additionally, nineteen Deputy Commissioners of Police, DCPs, have been promoted to the official rank of Commissioners, while twenty one Assistant Commissioners of Police, ACPs, have been elevated to the subsequent position of Deputy Commissioners. A total of thirty-three Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners.

As per the statement made by Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesperson of the commission, it has been announced that the Commission has granted approval for the promotion of 265 Superintendents of Police to the rank of Chief Superintendents. Additionally, fifty-nine Deputy Superintendents will be promoted to the rank of Superintendents, while 4750 Assistant Superintendents will be promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendents. Furthermore, 146 Assistant Superintendents, who were previously omitted during the promotion exercise in May 2022, will also be elevated to the rank of Deputy Superintendents.

The Commission has granted approval for the promotion of two Assistant Commissioners of Police, one from the Airwing and the other from the Forensic department, to the rank of Deputy Commissioners. Additionally, a total of 47 CSPs, consisting of 23 Medical Doctors and 24 Veterinary Doctors, have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police.

A total of 190 Superintendents of Police from the Computer Information Technology Unit, together with eight from the Works department, one from the Workshop, twelve from the Transport department, two from the Forensic department, two from the Handwriting department, one from the Ballistics department, one from the Religion department, and one Veterinary Doctor were also granted promotions.

A total of forty-seven Assistant Superintendents of Police from various units have been promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendents.

The Chairman of the PSC instructed the recently promoted Officers to adopt a novel policing culture centered on a people-friendly approach that upholds the fundamental rights of citizens. Additionally, the Chairman cautioned against engaging in civil matters or fabricating false accusations against the public. It was emphasized that such behavior would hinder the officers’ ability to gain the trust and cooperation of the people, thereby depriving them of reliable information provided by individuals with a vested interest in public security matters.

Dr. Arase expressed appreciation for the Inspector General of Police’s collaboration with the Commission in facilitating promotions across all departments of the Force, marking a significant departure from previous practices.

This particular action is expected to serve as a source of motivation for the workers, encouraging them to use their utmost efforts in effectively addressing matters pertaining to crimes and criminality. The individual made a statement.

The speaker emphasized the need of recognizing the inherent connection between benefits and burdens. Additionally, they highlighted the positive impact of being promoted to a higher rank as a motivating factor that can fire the unwavering battling spirit that has been characteristic of the Police force throughout the years.

As per the statement made by the Chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), it is emphasized that as the Commission endeavors to enhance the well-being of the Officers, it is expected that they, in turn, adhere to the prescribed laws and regulations governing the Police Force.

Dr. Arase emphasized that while carrying out their policing responsibilities, the Commission extends its sincere hope for divine protection and assures them that their interests would be of utmost importance to the Commission.

The individuals who have been promoted to the position of Assistant Inspectors General of Police are as follows: Ogundele Joshua Ayodeji, who was previously the Commissioner of Police in Niger State; Patrick Ogon Edung, who served as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Courses at the Police Academy in Wudil Kano; Badru Banji Lawal, who held the position of Deputy Commandant at the Police Academy in Kano; Bartholomew Nnamdi Onyeka, who was the Commissioner of Police in Benue State; Suleiman Yusuf, who served as the Commissioner of Police in Taraba State; Idowu Owohunwa, who held the position of Commissioner of Police in Lagos State; and Rhoda Adetutu Olofu, who was the Commissioner of Police in charge of the PAP Western Ports in Lagos.

The individuals mentioned include CP Godwin N. Aghaulor, CMDT Police College Kaduna, CP Effiom Emmanuel Ekot CP Jigawa State, CP Stanley Kanayo-Chukwu Ude, CP Intelligence and Investigation, Interpol Abuja, CP Longe Kehinde Patrick, CP Osun State, and CP Ndu Anene, CP Admin Research and Planning Force Headquarters.

The list comprises 19 recently appointed Commissioners of Police, namely DCP Shehu Kabir Abubakar, DCP Lawal Babatunde Ayodeji, DCP Shelleng Umaru Yusuf, DCP Emmanuel Agene, DCP Alonyenu Francis Iduh, DCP Vungmoh S. Kwaimo, DCP Danjuma Aboki, DCP Jude Maduekwujolachi Azuka, DCP Dan-Sabo Idi, DCP Ibitoye Rufus Olajide, and DCP Adamu Ngojin Isa.

The individuals mentioned are DCP Usman Hayatu, DCP Christopher Ado Emmanuel, DCP Nwanosike Wodi Okocha, DCP Johnson Oluwole Adenola, DCP Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola, DCP Joseph Eribo, DCP Miller Gajere Dantawaye, and DCP Henry Ifeanyi Uche.

The list of commissioners comprises Ime Udo Udofia, Isyaku Sharu, Benjamin Awor Abang, Mohammed Jika Abubakar, Mohammed Sanusi Ahmed, Dauda Iliya Ayuba, Moses Gana, Ikechukwu Emmanuel Nwosu, Promise Chinedu Udeh, and Okey Nwabufo.

The newly appointed Assistant Commissioners include individuals like as Jacob Nneji Egede, Godwin Chike Oti, Chike Jude Ibe, Daniel Okon Akpan, and Michael Chukwu Mbatam, among others.

Deputy Commissioners ACP Inuwa Muhammed (Airwing) and ACP Agbo Usman were recently elevated to their new positions. Additionally, several experts, namely CSP Okunbo Ruth Onyinmeare, Victor Efobi Iwuamadi, Adenuga Adeday Salami, and Isibhakhomen Blessing Ijiomah (all medical doctors), were also promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners.

The individuals mentioned are Tina Amadi, Egbede Moses, Danjuma Dantani, and Benjamin Kurya.

Hussaine Abdullahi, Mba Nnamdi Bartholomew, John Chima Ayah, Sanusi Danlami, Asinim Butswat, Police Public Relations Officer of Bayelsa state Command, Dieke Nneka Josephine, Mohammed Iya Musa, Idris Mohammed Gumel, and Ernest Abia were among the individuals who were promoted from the rank of Superintendent to Chief Superintendent of Police. DSP Isah Abubakar was elevated to the subsequent hierarchical level of Superintendent, however ASP Kingsley Ani and Shehu Salisu were advanced to the position of Deputy Superintendents, alongside numerous other individuals.

The Commissioners of Police and Deputies were required to appear before the Commission for a promotion interview, which served as a prerequisite for their promotions.
