Legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has cautioned the club that their participation in the Champions League this season would hinder their quest for the Premier League championship.
Last season, Mikel Arteta’s team came in second place against champion Manchester City.
The Gunners have played four games so far this season, and they already have 10 points.
Wenger, though, thinks that balancing Champions League football might cost them the crown.
They still have a bright, youthful team. They, I believe, took note of their mistakes from the previous year. That was really challenging for them mentally, and they struggled mightily. They would have undoubtedly taken note of that.
“I also think that City, even if they are a good team—I don’t dispute with that—can benefit from the loss of De Bruyne and Gundogan, two key players who were lost for an extended length of time.
Wenger remarked on the Seaman Says podcast, “But we have to deal with the Champions League, so that costs points as well.”
