The UN Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory has accused the Israeli military of continuing to kill civilians in Gaza, even in areas from which it has redeployed since the recent ceasefire.
According to the UN office, at least 15 Palestinians have been shot and killed in those redeployed zones since October 10. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the UN warned that targeting civilians not directly participating in hostilities constitutes a war crime, regardless of where the attack occurs or how close it is to the agreed deployment line.
Responding to the allegations, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told CNN that on Tuesday, “several suspects were identified crossing the yellow line and approaching IDF troops operating in the northern Gaza Strip.” The IDF added that its forces “opened fire to remove the threat” after attempts to push the individuals back failed.
However, a Gaza City resident, Moemen Hassanein, told Reuters that Israeli forces are still shooting at civilians. “They haven’t withdrawn; it’s all lies. When we go out, they shoot at us,” he said.
Meanwhile, both Israel and Hamas continue to accuse each other of violating the ceasefire, though there is currently no clear sign that the truce itself is in immediate danger.
