A local reporter told iGONG that most of the 4,000 guys who were being held there have now gotten away.
People who were arrested were members of a gang who were charged with killing President Jovenel Moïse in 2021.
In the last few years, violence has gotten worse in Haiti, which is the poorest country in the Americas. 80% of Port-au-Prince is run by gangs that want to get rid of Prime Minister Ariel Henry.
The latest round of violence started on Thursday, when the prime minister went to Nairobi to talk about sending a multinational security team led by Kenya to Haiti.
Kenyan President William Ruto said on Friday that he and Mr. Henry had signed a deal and were working to speed up the deployment.
The UN said in January that more than 8,400 people were killed, hurt, or kidnapped by Haitian gangs last year. This is more than double the number of people who were victims in 2022.
Since President Moïse was killed in 2021, there has been a lot of violence. No one has taken his place, and there have been no votes since 2016.
A deal said that polls would happen and that Mr. Henry, who had not been elected, would step down by February 7. This did not happen.
Unrest in Port-au-Prince has gotten worse since he left for Kenya. Gang boss Jimmy Chérizier, also known as "Barbecue," has called for a coordinated attack to remove the prime minister.
The former police officer, who is thought to be responsible for several killings in Port-au-Prince, said, "All of us, the armed groups in the provincial towns and the armed groups in the capital, are united."
Four police officers have been killed and five have been hurt in a wave of shootings in the capital.
Over the weekend, the French embassy in Haiti told people not to go to or near the city. The police union in Haiti has asked the military to help make the jail stronger.
