Tinubu called for halting purported NSA actions that might jeopardize national security.President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been urged to halt purported efforts by the National Security Adviser (NSA) to compromise the nation's security.

At a press conference in Abuja, Mr. Obadiah Solomon Ovye, the Co-convener of the civil society for peace, security, and development (CSPSD), alleged that the NSA's office is collaborating with the National Assembly to undermine the entire security apparatus.

The group called on the President and supporters to oppose the proposed bill, expressing concerns about its intentions and potential negative impact on the country's security.

The CSPSD raised questions about the urgency and lack of transparency in the process, highlighting issues with the proposed legislation's scope, powers, and potential consequences.

They emphasized the risk of concentrating too much power in the hands of a single individual, which could undermine democratic principles and accountability.

The group also questioned the need for the NSA to establish an independent agency, expressing worries about the potential creation of a parallel platform.

Moreover, the CSPSD expressed concerns about the rushed public hearing for the bill and its potential impact on the existing security framework. They argued that the proposed legislation could lead to political patronage, compromise security operations, and introduce risks associated with inadequate background checks for recruited personnel. The group also speculated on the political motivations behind the bill, raising questions about the NSA's political ambitions.

In conclusion, the CSPSD labeled the bill as ill-timed and suggested that it could incite unrest among security agencies. They called for careful scrutiny and consideration, urging stakeholders to resist what they deemed an ill-intentioned and ill-conceived piece of legislation.
