Police promise to overhaul after suspending an anti-cult civilian group.

The Nigeria Police Force has issued an immediate suspension of the operations of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), a community policing initiative and public relations tool under the Force Public Relations Department. The decision, disclosed by police spokesperson ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, is part of a strategic effort to conduct a comprehensive review of the unit, aiming to reposition it for increased efficiency and improved service delivery. Adejobi explained that the temporary suspension is intended to allow a thorough assessment and restructuring of POCACOV, which will now extend across the six geopolitical zones, each with its respective coordinator. This pause in activities is aimed at realigning POCACOV's strategies to effectively address contemporary security challenges and enhance its impact on Nigerian communities. While the suspension is in effect, the Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout the nation. The revitalization of POCACOV is seen as a step to reinforce its role as an essential community policing instrument, strengthening the bond between the Force and communities. Updates regarding the resumption of POCACOV programs and outreach activities will be communicated to the public in due course, as the Force continues to prioritize safety, security, and community partnership.
