Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has acknowledged owning shares in New Planet Project Limited, a company that received about 438 million naira from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The payment was for a social register project in 2023.
Tunji-Ojo, still listed as a director, claimed to have resigned in 2019 after winning a House of Representatives election but admitted to retaining shares.
He denied using influence to secure the contract, emphasizing that he doesn't run the company.
The acknowledgment comes amid investigations into alleged financial irregularities in the ministry, leading to the suspension of Minister Betta Edu and the head of the social investment fund agency.
President Bola Tinubu has directed a comprehensive inquiry into the matter.
