Council boss and others are kidnapped by gunmen in Nasarawa; they demand a N50 million ransom.
Mr. Safiyanu Isa, the Council Chairman of the Akwanga Local Government in Nasarawa State, was abducted on New Year's Day by unidentified gunmen near Adamu Custom in Ningo along Andaha, Akwanga.


Isa was kidnapped at Ningo village on the Akwanga – Andaha road in the Akwanga Local government area of the state along with one Alhaji Adamu Custom at about 8:30 in the evening of January 1, 2024, according to Special Adviser to the Nasarawa State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Haruna Kassimu, who confirmed the incident.


He said that security services had moved quickly to apprehend the gunmen who had taken the council chairman and forced him to flee violently to an unidentified location.


Adamu Custom, the Senior Special Advisor to Governor Sule on Local Government Affairs, was abducted together with the Council Boss.


In order to secure the release of the other victim and the council chairman, the police were working with other security agencies to track down the kidnappers, according to State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ramhan Nansel, who also confirmed the event.


A close family relative who wished to remain anonymous claims that the kidnappers are requesting N50 million naira as ransom.


Residents of the state have been living in perpetual fear as a result of the latest wave of kidnappings, even as security personnel have been battling the gunmen.
