The attack took place on Monday, January 1, 2024, in the evening, according to Borno State Police spokesperson Nahum Daso, who also corroborated the information.
Daso claims that two more people were hurt when the gunmen entered the neighborhood on motorcycles and Hilux vehicles in large groups and began firing intermittently.
According to reports, the terrorists arrived on motorbikes and Hilux trucks at 5:00 p.m., assaulted the village of Gatamarwa, and started fire on mourners leaving Gatamarwa. They were armed with AK-47 rifles.
Subsequently, the terrorists assaulted another Tsiha hamlet near Shikarkir, robbing three people of their lives and kidnapping a young woman while burning houses and stealing supplies.
The capital of Borno State, Maiduguri, is 125 kilometers away from Chibok LGA.
In the last 14 years, terrorism has wreaked havoc on the villages in this Borno LGA in the south, with numerous Boko Haram kidnappings.
The incident on Monday occurs approximately one month after militants destroyed four electric towers along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway, eleven months after Maiduguri's power was restored following a similar attack in 2021.
Terrorists have targeted farmers, herders, fishers, and loggers, claiming they are spying on them and providing information to the military and militia that are battling them.
