If the problem is not handled, several of the customers—who are also small company owners—told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday that it will lead to complications with financial transactions.
A customer named Mrs. Esther Eduk said that despite visiting four separate bank ATM locations, she was unable to obtain cash.
She claimed that the change rendered meaningless the holiday season, which was intended for giving and loving.
"I was shocked to learn that my bank did not have any money when I went there to get it.
"There was no cash in any of the bank ATMs along Nyanya-Mararaba Road that I visited.
"This is not healthy, and it is very discouraging, especially given the season," she remarked.
Mr. Lucky Igado, a Point of Sale (PoS) operator and another customer, said that he was unable to get cash out of his bank.
Igado claimed that his sole source of income, his business, had been put on hold due to the circumstances.
He urged the CBN to find a quick solution to the problem.
"I went to the bank to take out some cash for my company, but I was not given any."
"I even offered to pay more to maintain my business, but I was not successful. This is annoying.
"This issue of the financial shortage hurt President Bola Tinubu during his election. He should really assist us in getting by, he replied.
In an effort to reduce customer tension, Mrs. Adaora Ejeh, a different customer, also pleaded with banks to provide cash.
According to NAN, the CBN stated that there was a enough supply of banknotes for the nation's economic activity in a statement released by its Corporate Communications Department.
According to CBN, a significant number of cash withdrawals from its branches by Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) nationwide were the reason for the shortage.
