Why the police detained an Islamic preacher who criticized the governor of Kwara
In response to criticism of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the "poorly constructed" Tanke Flyover Bridge, an elderly resident known as Alhaji Abdulganiyu Babaimole was arrested, according to a report issued by the Kwara State Police Command.

In a statement, Kwara Police spokeswoman Toun Ejire-Adeyemi stated that the department wanted to address a claim published by Sahara Reporters on December 23, 2023, stating that Babaimole had been arrested by a group of police officers under the command of CSP Mustapha Olayemi, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Surveillance.

"Kwara State Command has decided to set the record straight regarding the sequence of arrest of one Alhaji Abdulganiyu Babaimole, contrary to the report by Sahara Reporters," Ejire-Adeyemi stated.

"The article purports to have shown that Babaimole was arrested at the mosque at 5:30 PM, but this is still untrue.

"Instead, at approximately 16:20 on Friday, December 22, 2023, after completing the Jumat and Sunnah Mu'akkadah prayers, he was captured at his home."

Based on the petition that was made against Alhaji Babaimole, two unarmed detectives from the Kwara Police Command were sent, according to Ejire-Adeyemi, to invite him for an interview.

She said that the subject, an Islamic cleric, was contacted by the investigators at his home in the Pakata neighborhood of Ilorin, where he provides medical care.

According to Ejire-Adeyemi, this explanation is essential since it dispels a misconception about Babaimole's arrest's date and place.

She refuted the story that it happened at his house after he returned from the mosque at approximately 4:20 p.m. that day and not during prayer.

The Kwara Police spokeswoman emphasized the importance of reporting truthfully, particularly when discussing delicate subjects like this, in order to prevent misunderstandings or false presumptions.

Babaimole, Ejire-Adeyemi clarified, actually extended a hearty greeting to the detectives he mistakenly believed to be his clients.

She stated that after the detectives presented their warrant cards as further identification, Babaimole asked to have his cap taken from his room and told a family member about his invitation to the police station.

The individual then willingly followed the police investigators after that. Ejire-Adeyemi declared, "The storyline of Sahara reporters on this subject is erroneous and incorrect.

"It's a misinformation and mischievous conduct intended to undermine the Command's efforts to keep the state peaceful and harmonious, particularly during this holiday season.

As a result, the kwara state command strongly advises everyone to reject this incorrect and deceptive information that Sahara media have spread.
