To safeguard trees, France donates $150 million to the Congo and Papua New Guinea.
On Saturday, France decided to provide $50 million to the Republic of the Congo and $100 million to Papua New Guinea in order to preserve their forests.

Announcing the collaborations during the UN's COP28 climate talks in Dubai, President Emmanuel Macron stated that he aimed to finalize a similar $60 million arrangement with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

He declared, "We have to compensate countries when they actively protect these forests," adding that "nature is the best technology available to capture and store CO2."

The action was taken the day after Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the president of Brazil, made a plea for the establishment of a $250 billion fund to protect tropical forests, which would reimburse 80 nations for their conservation efforts.
