To help Governor Yusuf win the guber lawsuit at the Supreme Court, 200 lawyers volunteer.
Almost two hundred private attorneys from the 19 Northern States have offered their services to help Kano State Governor Kabir Yusuf win his appeal of the governorship election at the Nigerian Supreme Court.

Speaking on behalf of the "Abba Kabir Yusuf Volunteer Lawyers Forum For The 19-Northern States And Abuja," they did so.

The attorneys' spokesperson, Mr. Yusuf Ibrahim, urged President Bola Tinubu and the Supreme Court to prevent Nigeria from becoming a one-party state, calling it an unhealthy democratic practice, during a press conference at Arewa House on Sunday in Kaduna.

They voiced worries about the nation's judiciary's independence.

The attorneys said that in order to guarantee that every Nigerian voter's vote counts during elections, the rule of law must be upheld.

They went on to show their support for Yusuf while stating that they believed the Appeal Court's ruling in favor of the APC was a blatant injustice.

"As private attorneys, we offer our services to join the legal battle in the Nigerian Supreme Court on behalf of Governor Yusuf.

"In the struggle to reclaim his mandate and the people of Kano State, we want to stand for the truth."Ibrahim continued.

The group called for an amendment to the Electoral Act as well.

He stated, "If we are to save democracy, it is pertinent to state here that the Electoral Act needs a holistic reworking in order to address these anomalies of our judicial system and democracy."

After an election's winner is announced, the group believes that pre-election matters should be dealt as non-litigable matters.

The Court's attempts to draw conclusions from their results and designate politicians the winners must also be stripped of such authority, they declared. Order a rerun in the impacted areas, at most.

There is a risk that if current developments continue unchecked, public voting and transparent elections would become unnecessary.

"This is the case because individuals who are familiar with the rules of the game will assume control of their mandate, and the outcome of the election will no longer be determined by the general voting posts."

The attorneys urged the Supreme Court to maintain the rule of law and safeguard the judiciary's reputation by rejecting any outside influence.

"We hope the Apex Court will act appropriately, impartially, and with skill and competence in light of the recently rendered judgments," they stated.

Another member, Mr. Usman Ashafa, stated in response to questioning from media that the Appeal Court's ruling left a lot to be desired.
