Around 10 p.m. on Sunday, December 24, 2023, gunmen attacked the settlements of Barkin-Ladi and Bokkos, and more than 115 people have been officially declared dead as a result.
The most recent death toll was revealed by Plateau State governor Caleb Mutfwang on Tuesday during an appearance with Channels Television's Sunrise Daily.
In response to the tragic event, the President also ordered the quick mobilization of resources for both medical care for the injured and relief efforts for the attack's survivors.
As he expressed his condolences to the Plateau State government and people, President Tinubu gave Nigerians the assurance that those who are accountable will face punishment.
Concurrently, the incident in Plateau has been denounced by the 19 Northern State Governors Forum, which is chaired by Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state.
Yahaya bemoaned the act's passage before to the festive period's celebration in a press release on behalf of the Northern Governors.
The news of the almost 100 lives lost and the property destroyed during these attacks is abhorrent and depressing, especially because it happened just as locals were getting ready for the holiday season.
