Three civil servants are detained by police in Kano for damaging government property.
On December 9, 2023, Abubakar Gambo, the Director of the Kano State Ministry of Water Resources, was taken into custody by agents of the Kano State Police Command.

Gambo was detained together with two other suspects for their alleged plot to fabricate a letter approving the auction of a vital public utility—a high-capacity water irrigation pump and tank—without the appropriate approval from the Supervising Ministry.

The other two suspects are Nuhu Mansur, the former manager of the Karefa Water Irrigation Scheme, and Baba Yahaya, the assistant secretary of administration.

At Tudun Wada LGA's Karefa Water Irrigation Scheme, the three suspects were taken into custody.

The suspects confessed to selling the property for N500,000 and acknowledged perpetrating the crime together during the course of the inquiry.

The investigation is scheduled to conclude with a judicial presentation of the case.

Muhammad Usaini Gumel, the commissioner of police in Kano, thanked the populace for their ongoing assistance in helping to identify those involved in illegal activity.

Gumel asked everyone to protect public assets and underlined the significance of viewing government property as a shared duty.

While reminding the public of the commitment to preserving justice and ensuring security in the state, he expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their friendship and faith in the Police Command.
