The confirmation of the development was made by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the spokesperson of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), in a statement released on Sunday, December 10, 2023.
The announcement indicates that the airstrike was carried out by the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch in the Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.
According to Gabkwet, Jambros and his crew were traced from Zamfara to Niger State. They were intercepted and eliminated while trying to cross the Jikudna River in Galadima Kogo District. Their destination was the Wurukuvhi area of Chikun LGA.
"Before the attack, Yellow Jambros and his accomplices were being followed from Zamfara State to Niger State, riding 13 motorcycles along the Kaduna-Niger State border, specifically heading towards Kusasu in Shiroro LGA of Niger State," stated Gabkwet.
"At Kusasu, an additional five terrorists on motorcycles joined the convoy led by Yellow Jambros, resulting in a total of 18 motorcycles. The convoy then proceeded towards the Jikudna bank."
Gabkwet reported that the terrorists, together with their 18 motorcycles, embarked on a sizable motorized canoe at the river bank with the intention of crossing over and joining up with other terrorists on the opposite side of the river.
At this juncture, the permission to carry out a strike was granted. The pinpoint strike was deemed efficient since it incapacitated Yellow Jambros and his associates, obliterated their motorcycles, and submerged the boat," he further stated.
