The lab at NAFDAC receives WHO prequalification status. The World Health Organization (WHO) has granted the Central Drug Control Laboratory (CDCL) in Lagos prequalification status, according to a Thursday announcement made by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

According to NAFDAC, this is a huge accomplishment that demonstrates their commitment to guaranteeing the security and caliber of pharmaceutical items.

"This designation places CDCL among an exclusive global group acknowledged for expertise in drug analysis,” NAFDAC stated. It was formally notified by the WHO Prequalification Inspection team in September 2023 and published on the WHO website last week.

"The accomplishment is the outcome of a ten-year journey that has gained momentum over the last four years thanks to renewed efforts and dedication from the Federal Government and NAFDAC's management."

"CDCL's WHO Prequalification gives NAFDAC and Nigeria's healthcare system increased credibility, improved pharmaceutical quality, international collaboration opportunities, and streamlined regulatory processes."

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of NAFDAC, thanked partners WHO Nigeria Country Office, USP PQM+ Nigeria Country Office, Global Fund, and the Honorable Minister of Health, among other stakeholders, for their tireless efforts and steadfast dedication.

"The agency is excited to use this recognition to strengthen partnerships, improve healthcare access, and contribute to the overall improvement of public health in Nigeria and the West African region. This achievement highlights NAFDAC's dedication to public health."

As a regulator, it strengthens NAFDAC's legacy as we strive to reach Maturity Level 4 and become a globally listed authority.

"This accomplishment would not have been possible without the Honorable Minister of Health's perseverance, hard work, and dedication, as well as those of NAFDAC management, CDCL employees, and our prestigious partners, WHO Nigeria Country Office, USP PQM+ Nigeria Country Office, and Global Fund.
