The Igbo-Ukwu community laments the death of Ezeife, the former governor of Anambra, who was 85 years old.
Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, a former governor of Anambra, passed away.

Eighty-five was Ezeife's age.

The elder statesman passed away on Thursday at the Federal Medical Centre in Abuja, according to Chief Nwakaire Ezeife, who made the announcement on behalf of the family.

I am pleased to announce the elevation to glory of our most illustrious son, Okwadike, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, CON, on behalf of the Ezeife Dynasty of Igbo-Ukwu.

He was a devoted politician, the first executive governor of Anambra, and a former permanent secretary of the federal government.

He declared, "More information about the deceased and the plans for his state burial will be announced later."

The Igbo-Ukwu Community in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra, according to Mr. Christian Ike, President General, is grieving over Ezeife's passing.

Ike stated that despite his involvement in politics, the country, and the world, Okwadike was a community leader who served as president general of Igbo-Ukwu and was concerned about the town's progress until his passing.

"We are shocked by his passing. Igbo-Ukwu is in sorrow for the loss of a wonderful man, a father, a community leader, and a nationalist.

"Even though he was in a hospital bed when I spoke with him two weeks ago, he gave me the assurance that he was improving. He also took the time to inquire about the goings-on in Igbo-Ukwu and to pray for us.

He replied, "We are in pain, but we completely surrender to the will of the Almighty."

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nov. 20, 1938, was his birthdate. He was affectionately known as "Okwadike."

During the short-lived Third Republic, he was governor of Anambra from January 1992 until November 1993.
