During the commissioning ceremony on Friday, Arc. Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of the Fund, stated that the University has benefited from TETFund interventions since 2012. The Fund has provided strong support to the University in its endeavor to become a preeminent institution for scholar training in the country's northeast geopolitical zone.
"From year 2012 to date, TETFund has allocated the sum of N17,336,446,369.32 for infrastructure-related interventions only, cutting across the annual, special, special high impact, and zonal interventions, among others," stated Echono, who was represented by Olajide Babatunde, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation for the Fund.
With almost 97% of the funds already available, we are pleased to see that they are being wisely used to provide the necessary facilities, which can be observed throughout this campus. Without a doubt, the projects carried out with these funds have had a significant impact on the university's mission to support teaching, learning, research, and community service," he stated.
With regard to the recently launched project, Echono stated that the Central Library Complex was approved under the Fund's 2017–2019 (merged) annual intervention program, with a total cost of N1,025,000,000.00 covering consulting, external works, furnishing, and building.
It is nice to hear that the project was effectively finished and turned over to the university following the roughly two to three year construction period. We are pleased to note that the project is now ready for use, demonstrating the University Management's tenacity and dedication in the midst of the many dire situations that our country has encountered.
In addition to providing funding for Bauchi State University's physical infrastructure and equipment, Hon. Aliyu Bappa Misau, a member of the House Committee on TETFund, also spoke. "I am pleased to note that TETFund has sponsored 100 lecturers for Ph.D. from this University in both foreign and local institutions totaling N955,758,119.50; 143 lecturers for masters degrees in both foreign and local institutions totaling N359,206,115.50," Misau said.
"At a total cost of N126,632,576.45, 6 lecturers for bench work totaling N40,423,257.00; 2 lecturers for postdoc totaling N18,319,100.00; and 282 staff have been sponsored for conference attendance both locally and abroad," he stated.
