She made this revelation in Abuja while speaking to the PUSG scheme's 2023 recipients.
Uzodimma continued, saying, "PUSG is an annual educational and charitable project that aims to give financial help to a chosen group of underprivileged law school applicants throughout Nigeria.
The idea, according to the UK-trained lawyer, aims to make it easier for young Nigerian lawyers who are destitute but still want to practice law to fulfill their ambition of becoming famous legal figures.
"Many people ask why I started the Prada Uzodimma Scholarship Grant, and my response is still the same: we are investing in the future of young people who want to be lawyers," the speaker stated. We are providing them with the chance they are due.
"We are giving impoverished students the opportunity to become lawyers; the focus is not on the smartest student."
According to Uzodimma, the annual PUSG was introduced in 2021 with five recipients who were selected through a relationship with Principle Legal Consult.
We decided to increase the number of beneficiaries to 10 in 2022, and they recently finished the bar exam. We anticipate that all of them will be called to the bar the following year, and this year's beneficiaries now total 15, with no preference given to any specific individual, group, or religion.
"It is important to trace the origins of the Prada Uzodimmma Law School Scholarship Grant back to my own time at the Nigerian law school in 2017," the speaker said, reflecting on the scholarship grant's incredible journey.
"When I was a law student in 2017, my group had to raise money for several other students who were unable to pay their tuition and hence could not take the Nigerian Bar Exams.
"As a group, we had to pool our resources to provide financial support for a few kids; however, we were unable to help all of them. Subsequently, I came to understand that this is a situation that many students at Nigerian law schools face, as the majority of them aspire to practice law but are unable to support themselves.
She continued by saying that the PUSG is only intended for impoverished students, in contrast to most scholarship programs.
In order to guarantee that ambitious legal students around the nations fulfill their aspirations of being called to the Nigerian bar, she urged well-to-do Nigerians of good will to support the project.
"Your sponsorship will support future lawyers in Nigeria and breathe life into the frail dreams of impoverished students." We kindly ask for your assistance today. Come along for the ride by sponsoring a law student right now.
During his keynote speech, Prof. Isa Chiroma, the Director General of the Nigeria Law School, expressed gratitude to Uzodimma for initiating the PUSG with the goal of enabling future attorneys to realize their dreams.
Chiroma, who was represented by Dr. Beatrice Shuwa, advised the scholarship winners to put in a lot of effort to demonstrate why they should be included in the program.
Since this project directly affects law schools, we are proud of it and hope that those who genuinely need it will be given the chance.
We are quite proud of Prada for offering hope to those who would otherwise be unable to attend law school due to financial constraints, as some struggle to make ends meet while having to purchase books and food.
"Therefore, you must be good ambassadors of the Prada Uzodimma Law School Scholarship Grant, for those of you who are privileged to be beneficiaries," she stated.
