During the official commissioning and handover of a block of four classrooms with offices to St. Mathias Nursery and Primary School Kusogi, in Mokwa local council of Niger State, Mr. Anlo Du Pisani, General Manager of the Golden Sugar Company, made the commitment.
Anlo Du disclosed that in order to determine the most important areas for growth and investment, the sugar company carried out an impartial needs assessment of its host community in August 2022.
He claims that the initiative was inspired by the realization that equal opportunity and a secure future for all depend on education, which also helps to boost the economy and offer prosperity and happiness in life. According to him, this led the company to decide to start an educational project. He also mentioned that the company gave the school two 40-foot containers in 2018 that were divided into two classrooms each.
Pisani stated that the project, which had a total cost of N27,265,177, was financed mostly by the corporation and a foreign donor.
Prior to this, Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji (Dr.) Yahaya Abubakar, expressed gratitude to the business for funding the local community's education.
In order to prevent vandalism, the monarch counseled parents and guardians to take charge of the initiative.
The school was founded for everyone, regardless of ethnic or religious differences, according to the Etsu Nupe, who was represented by Alhaji Baiwa Abubakar Mohammed, Ndaceko Nupe. The Nupe also invited Muslim parents to enroll their children in the school.
Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi, the chairman of the Mokwa local council, praised the company for the gift and mentioned that it had fulfilled its corporate social duty of offering amenities to the host community throughout the years.
He underlined that students of other faiths must enroll their wards in the school because it is not only intended for Christian students.
The head of the council gave the school fifty seats and tables as well as permission to send teachers there right away in an attempt to support the sugar company's efforts and guarantee regular oversight of the school's operations.
The Kutigi Diocese's Bishop, Rt. Reverend Jeremiah Kolo, alluded to the fact that the church started the project but was unable to proceed past the foundation stage due to budgetary limitations. Afterwards, the sugar firm took over and finished the project, including the perimeter fencing.
The priest said that the state government's decision to elevate the school from primary to junior and senior secondary was made possible by the donation of the new classrooms.
On the other hand, he urged the host community to return the favor by enrolling their kids in the school.
Kolo declared that in order to raise the standard of living in the host community, the church will keep working with the sugar firm.
The company's provision of a suitable environment for teaching and learning was appreciated by Destiny Joseph, the head girl, Muktar Sani, and Alhaji Jiya Kusogi, the chairman of the Parent Teachers Association (PTA), in their respective goodwill letters.
