The minister made this announcement at the Town Hall Security Meeting in Lagos, stressing how President Tinubu has made significant economic investments and how his particular emphasis on security will strengthen the economy.
Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim said that security is local and asked Nigerians to recognize and embrace the distinctive characteristics of each community in the quest for a safer country, all the while urging them to work together with the police force.
"This Townhall is the first in a long series of Townhall engagements across the Country, to foster community-specific solutions and catalyze grassroots understanding of security dynamics."Since security is intrinsically local, our strategy needs to take into account the unique qualities, difficulties, and assets of every community.
Therefore, to achieve inclusivity and complete ownership, local security interventions must be created based on local features and considerations with full engagement from residents of the various communities and blocks. For example, certain communities are facing security issues because of a large influx of foreign nationals; others are experiencing insecurity because of fast urbanization; still others are facing insecurity because of resource control and the rural character of their surroundings, among other factors.
The minister also expressed gratitude and admiration for His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, for maintaining and strengthening the security framework that Mr. President had established for a safer Lagos State.
He also mentioned that the Lagos State Security Trust Fund remains a bright example of the potential for community involvement and cooperation in community security.
In order to promote inclusivity and complete ownership, the minister urged that local security interventions be created with full participation from residents of the various communities and blocks, taking into account local idiosyncrasies and considerations.
"For example, certain communities are facing security issues due to a significant influx of foreign nationals; others are facing insecurity as a result of fast urbanization; still others are facing insecurity as a result of resource control and the rural character of their surroundings, among other factors."This is a time for action and commitment, not for protracted words.
I will now briefly outline the background information for the Renewed Hope Police Reform Project. We are here to gain further thoughts from various viewpoints and your experience.
The Nigeria Police Force has been carefully redesigned and strengthened via the implementation of six core pillars that act as strategic frameworks. The first is Technical and operating Excellence, which aims to improve the skills of our police personnel by utilizing state-of-the-art technologies and optimizing operating procedures. To increase its operational efficacy, the Nigeria Police Force's aviation and sea capabilities will also be strengthened. The second is Infrastructure Advancement, which entails launching a comprehensive drive to modernize, fortify, and standardize the Nigeria Police Force's physical infrastructure.
To increase operational efficiency, this entails building command centers and modernizing facilities. The third is Welfare Enhancement, which focuses on our officers' overall health by putting in place extensive support networks and medical procedures. This pillar seeks to support our committed staff members' financial, mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
The creation of a thorough policy framework that will act as the underpinning for the whole law enforcement system comes in fourth. In order to restore public confidence and guarantee the greatest levels of professionalism and accountability, this calls for adherence to best practices.
The Nigeria Police Force may project a modern and positive image by launching a smart branding effort, which brings us to our fifth point: branding, citizen engagement, and public trust management. This calls for proactive citizen engagement as well as efficient public trust management through open and accountable procedures.
The sixth topic is Community Collaboration and Public Trust, which focuses on creating cooperative relationships within the community to strengthen public trust and increase citizen engagement. This pillar highlights how crucial it is for law enforcement and the communities they serve to have a mutually beneficial relationship.Together, these pillars serve as the cornerstone of our work, which aims to place the Nigeria Police Force in an effective path marked by openness, trust from the public, and a close bond with the communities it serves. As I put these ideas into practice, I can't help but wonder, "Who is the Police?" I think the answer goes much beyond a label, a uniform, or a job title: we are all police, whether we are acting as enforcers, informants, or WatchGuards. Since we are all guardians of security, it is our duty to support efforts to create a society that is safer and more resilient.
She concluded by saying that she has vowed to support initiatives that will provide workable solutions to address the complex problems that have limited the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force, and she invited Nigerians to join her in redefining policing in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and reestablishing confidence.
