The Building Authority also forewarned estate developers and owners in the State to adhere to town planning laws and regulations, which include securing a certificate of fitness-to-use, authorization to start construction, and planning permit compliance.
Sango-Ota, Itori, Ibese, Kobape, Ilisan Remo, Ilara road, Iperu Remo, and Ogere were all included in the two-day monitoring and enforcement action that was led by Engr. Olakunle Olaniran, Acting General Manager (AGM) of the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority.
Olaniran said the exercise was conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development's Central Monitoring Unit. The developers of the estates had previously been invited to a meeting, but Olaniran decided to move forward with the enforcement exercise because of their unsatisfactory responses.
This exercise has demonstrated that even those in positions of power who ought to know better nonetheless break the law. A walled estate does not imply that the laws governing its construction were followed.
"Building authorization, stage-to-stage certification, planning permits, and certificates of fitness to live in are required for all buildings, whether or not they are located inside estates."
He issued a warning to estate developers and owners that all structures located in the state must abide by town planning rules and ordinances.
The AGM went on to say that raising awareness would be an ongoing activity and that the enforcement effort would guarantee adherence to the legal framework governing the construction industry.
He said that six commercial structures and three residential buildings that had previously received contravention notices were sealed, and that 46 residential buildings overall within two estates in Sango-Ota were served with notices of violation.
