Building the housing estate would enable low-income earners to have access to inexpensive, ecologically friendly housing, which will play a significant role in reducing the effects of climate change.
The revelation was made by Mr. Bashir Yakubu Harka, Director General of State Housing Corporation, during a working visit and physical inspection of the green More Raba Housing Estate construction that is now underway in the Kpakugu district of Chanchaga Local Government.
He emphasized that the housing corporation is prepared to work with the developer by providing the necessary lands at various local government areas of Niger State. He stated that the project was intended to provide affordable houses to the people of the state, particularly civil servants and members of the public.
The housing estate, which is situated off the Minna-Bida road, Kpakungu, in the Chanchaga Local Government area of Niger State, is intended to provide 120 affordable dwellings, including 2-bedroom, 3-bedroom bungalows, and 4-bedroom terrace duplexes with a boy's quarter.
Out of the 10,000 housing units that Niger has planned, he said that this project is a pilot scheme. He also mentioned the amenities and infrastructure that go along with it, such as paved internal roads and drains, water, sewage treatment, landscaping, a gatehouse and perimeter fence, CCTV, play areas, and worship centers.
The Housing Estate will be constructed through a private-public partnership (PPP) with the Niger State government and the state Housing Corporation as the land provider, according to Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) Engr. Kayode Adeleke, who also spoke. Tis-Buk Reality Limited will develop.
According to him, the corporation decided to start the project in Minna, the state capital, because of the city's vital location historically within Nigeria and the governor, Mohammed Umar Bago,'s inspiring vision and activities.
He informed reporters that the 10,000-unit housing estate will be sold to members of cooperative groups and the general public. It will feature 2,500 units of one-bedroom terrace bungalows, 3,000 units of two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, and 4,500 units of three-bedroom semi-detached bungalows.
The estimated development, as revealed, will take 84 months to complete and will cost N167 billion.
Declaring that the housing projects will boost internally generated revenue (IGR) and create jobs for the unemployed youth who are teaming up, both skilled and unskilled. They will also support the governor Mohammed Umar Bago's vision for a green economy and act as a major catalyst for the state's citizens' social and poverty alleviation.
The managing director and chief executive officer (MD/CEO) of Refuge Mortgage Bank declared during his speech that they are strategic financial partners with Tis-Buk Reality limited to achieve this goal.
"Because the bank is positioned to offer opportunities for all subscribers through its various housing products and services."The bank has also made the decision to establish itself in the state capital. The best foot forward is the stakeholders' collaboration, he said.
